DR. TOM JACKSON BECOMES PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE GEORGIA GERIATRIC SOCIETY

Augusta, GA - Dr. Thomas W. Jackson, Associate Director of the MCG Center for Senior Health, will become President-Elect of the Georgia Geriatric Society, effective January 24, 2002. He will serve in this capacity until 2004 at which point he will ascend to the Presidency.

Dr. Jackson has held various academic appointments and clinical posts at the Medical College of Georgia and Duke University Medical Center since 1985. Dr. Jackson is board certified and fellowship trained. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, Gerontological Society of America, Medical Association of Georgia, American Medical Directors Association and Aerospace Medical Association. He received the 1998 to 2001 Physician's Recognition Award from the American Medical Association and the 1999 to 2003 Geriatrics Recognition Award from the American Geriatrics Society.

The Georgia Chapter of the American Geriatrics Society is the state's premier professional organization of health care providers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all older adults. With an active membership of over 6,000 health care professionals, the AGS has a long history of effecting change in the provision of health care for older adults. In the last decade, the AGS has become a pivotal force in shaping attitudes, policies and practices regarding health care for older people.
