Who ever thought a building could be designed as a healing environment? And yet that is exactly how the new MCGHealth Cancer Center in Augusta, Georgia is designed. Using a modern, scientific approach known as evidence-based design along with the expert advice of cancer patient advisors, the new facility brings in nature and sunlight . . . it welcomes family and friends . . . and it puts patients in charge in as many ways possible.

The building will be 57,000 square feet with a parking garage the same size. Featuring a beautiful lobby and commons area, the building will offer the following clinical services:

Even though we know the clinical treatment areas are important, our patient advisors identified special amenities designed specifically for cancer patients, including:
-
Café offering a healthy selection of snacks and beverages
- Gift Shop featuring items of special need by cancer patients in addition to gifts, cards and flowers
- Meditation area where patients and families can have private quiet time either indoors or outdoors
- Rooftop garden within view of the infusion area
- Family Resource Library offering resources and computers so that patients and families can learn more about their diagnoses and treatments options
- Meeting rooms designed with support groups in mind
A building built for patients, designed by patients. That’s a recipe for success and truly a new era in cancer care.
