About MCG Children's Medical Center 

The MCGHealth Children's Medical Center was built in 1998, and serves as a national model for what can be achieved when hospital administrators collaborate with families and children in the planning, design and construction of a hospital. The pediatric hospital was conceived in the mold of patient and family centered care and continues to operate according to that philosophy of care today.

We are the region's only children's hospital, and we are devoted to providing state-of-the-art health care to children and adolescents. Our team of pediatric specialists - the largest number of pediatric specialists and subspecialists in the region - treats everything from life-threatening conditions to common childhood illnesses.

We provide the region's only:

• Level III (highest level) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit:  Treats premature babies and newborns in need of critical care.
• State-Designated Regional Perinatal Center:  Provides prenatal care for women with high-risk pregnancies and treats complex fetal problems.
• Pediatric Emergency Department and Level I (highest level) Pediatric Trauma Center:  Supported by air and ground transportation, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Radiology Department and Pediatric Surgery Department.
• Leading-Edge Pediatric Technologies and Treatments: 
  Utilizing approaches such as the use of nitric oxide for neonates with underdeveloped lungs, and the use of the lung bypass machine to treat high-risk newborns and children with heart and lung problems.  A high-tech endosuite is part of the new Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery for Children.  Minimally invasive surgery has become the standard of care for many thoracic and abdominal operations in children.  As in adults, this technique allows children to heal faster with less pain, less scarring and less risk of infection.  Parents and their children are able to get back to their lives more quickly.
