PICU

As part of MCG Children’s Medical Center’s outstanding pediatric critical care, we offer a 14-bed pediatric intensive care unit, also known as the PICU. Dedicated critical care physicians, nurses and staff work together to develop the best plan of care to kids back to being kids. The PICU specializes in trauma, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, respiratory, general surgery and orthopedic surgery. We believe family involvement promotes healing. That’s why parents are allowed and encouraged 24-hour visitation in the PICU.

Our PICU was the first in Georgia equipped with lifesaving ECMO technology. ECMO, or Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, is a treatment that keeps the heart and lungs working by providing oxygen to the blood. Last year, we cared for more than 750 critically ill children.
