The Pediatric Transport Team is comprised of specially trained nurses and respiratory therapists with over 30 years of pediatric critical care experience and 17 years of pediatric transports. The team travels throughout Georgia and neighboring states by ground or helicopter, bringing onsite emergency care directly to patients from birth to 21 years. When an emergency call is received, the team is mobilized delivering critical care directly to the patient. The patient is stabilized and brought to the children’s hospital. MCG Children’s Medical Center is the region’s only pediatric tertiary care referral hospital and our physicians include subspecialists in all areas of pediatrics.
The team can provide all types of support for the child during the transport setting, including ventilator support, invasive monitoring and vasoactive drugs.
When to call the Pediatric Transport Team
• Pediatric patient requiring higher level of care
• Technology-dependent emergency
• Respiratory distress or airway compromise
• Injury with a high index of suspension
• Deteriorating vital signs
• Altered level of consciousness
• Cardiac
• Trauma
Services Available
From the first call to our pediatric intensivits support is available to you. Our pediatric intensivits will provide trouble shooting and guidance to your team until the transport team arrives. The response of our team will be tailored to fit your childs needs in the safest and most efficient manner possible.
Family-Centered Care
One parent or guardian is allowed to travel with the child if being transported by way of ground. If the child is being transported by air, parents are not permitted due to safety regulations.
