MCGHealth Wins the Gold in GHA Competition

July 8, 2008

Augusta, GA--

Four MCGHealth projects recently took top honors at the Georgia Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations’ annual conference. MCGHealth submitted entries in four categories and was awarded the gold on all four.

In the website category, MCGHealth’s ihealth for Women site won the gold. Located at mcghealth.org/ihealth, the site is specifically designed to address the unique healthcare needs of women at four stages in life - teens, young women, midlife women and mature women. It also contains a useful reference library with links to the websites of more than 20 national organizations, including the American Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Women’s Heart Foundation.

"Is it hot in here? Or is it me?" beat out all entries in the Events category. This seminar, created for women facing the changes of midlife and beyond, was held in September 2007 and attended by more than 400. During the event, authors of the book Is it hot in here? Or is it me? shared stories and advice they’ve learned about understanding and embracing midlife transitions.

In the community relations category, MCGHealth’s CSRA in Scrubs won the gold. This event, held twice a year, allows business and community leaders to walk in the footsteps of healthcare professionals for a day. Scrubs participants receive a behind-the-scenes view of healthcare while visiting the MCGHealth Medical Center, MCGHealth Children’s Medical Center and the Georgia Radiation Therapy Center. Other facets of the experience included learning about Patient Family Centered Care; mimicking surgery techniques using a simulator; following fictitious, but true-to-life patients and families through difficult healthcare decisions; and operating and maintaining a series of buildings that never closes.

Wrapping up the top honors are the electronic bulletin boards that are located throughout the facilities, which won in the Displays category. These continuously updated indoor billboards are used to communicate MCGHealth news, information and events to employees, patients, families and visitors.

The Georgia Hospital Association’s Georgia Society of Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations presented its 2007 Target Awards, which recognize outstanding marketing and public relations programs in a variety of categories within Georgia’s healthcare organizations, in May 2008 in Greensboro.

These prestigious awards provide a vehicle for organizations to showcase their marketing and public relations accomplishments while recognizing the industry’s top performances in a variety of categories. There are 26 GSHMPR Target Award categories and a Best of Show each year that healthcare organizations may enter. Only one gold and one silver is given in each category, and all categories may not generate qualifying entries. For 2007, GSHMPR awarded one best of show, 21 silver awards and 23 gold awards.
