MCG Health Offers Guest Meals for Family Members

January 18, 2008

Augusta, GA--

Family members who don’t want to leave their loved ones even to go eat can now stay right by their bedsides. MCG Health is offering family members guest meal trays while their loved ones are hospitalized.  “This is consistent with our evolution as a patient- and family-centered health system,” said Patricia Sodomka, Senior Vice-President of Patient- and Family-Centered Care.

Meal vouchers may be purchased on-site. The prices are $3 for breakfast; $5 for lunch; and $5 for dinner. These vouchers are nonrefundable, but have no expiration date.  Families may choose from a menu of hot foods and cold sandwiches, both of which change daily. Special diet restrictions, such as a low-sodium diet, will be honored on request.

Food and Nutrition Services will take orders two hours before mealtime, or family members may place an order with the Hospitality Specialist who takes patients’ orders.  Guest meals will be delivered between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for breakfast, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for lunch and from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for dinner.

Guest meals were first implemented two years ago at the MCG Children’s Medical Center as a special service for the families of young patients. The new and improved guest meal program includes the entire hospital and conveniently allows guests to use a credit card in the gift shops and Terrace Dining to purchase meals, a payment option not previously available.
