Hal ScottHarold H. (Hal) Scott, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of MCG Health, Inc., has been reappointed to the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) for 2007-2008.  Based on his individual expertise, Scott will serve on the CCHIT’s Inpatient Electronic Health Records Work Group, which will determine the criteria by which electronic health records are considered functional. 
 
Prior to assuming his current position in 2000, Scott was the Chief Information Officer at the University of Virginia Health System.  His more than 32 years of experience includes being the Chief Information Officer of Emory University Health System, and a consultant with Deloitte & Touche and KPMG Peat Marwick.

He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi, and an M.A. degree in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University.
 
In 2004, the American Health Information Management Association, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and the National Alliance for Health Information Technology formed CCHIT, a voluntary, private-sector organization that certifies health information technology products.  In 2005, CCHIT received a three-year contract from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop, create prototypes for, and evaluate the certification criteria and inspection process for electronic health records.
