The Alumni Society extends this recognition to those who have made outstanding contributions to the field of health services management and policy. The person must be an active member of the Alumni Society, must be within 10 or more years of having received their master’s degree and must also have significant professional achievements in the field of health care. She has been a national advocate of patient- and family-centered care since the 1990s. Her groundbreaking efforts at MCG Health System were showcased in the PBS documentary “Remaking American Medicine” that debuted in October 2006 on PBS affiliates across the nation. Sodomka earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy and her master’s in Hospital and Health Services Administration at The Ohio State University. She has more than 28 years experience in health care management. American Association of Medical Colleges, the Executive Committee of the University HealthSystem Consortium, the Appalachian Council of University Teaching Hospitals, the Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association and the Georgia Hospital Association Board of Trustees. She is the founding Chair of the Georgia Hospital Association Partnership for Health and Accountability, a statewide coalition focused on improving quality and patient safety in Georgia’s hospitals. MCG Health System is composed of three separate organizations -- MCG Health, Inc. and the clinical services offered by the faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia and the members of the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation. The physicians of MCG Health System are community physicians, faculty employees of the Medical College of Georgia or employees of the MCG Physicians Practice Group Foundation, not employees of MCG Health Inc. MCG Health, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation operating the MCG Medical Center, MCG Children’s Medical Center, the MCG Sports Medicine Center, MCG Ambulatory Care Center, the Georgia Radiation Therapy Center and related clinical facilities and services.
