MCG CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER TO HOST SIBSHOP PROGRAM

Augusta, GA - The MCG Children's Medical Center will host a Sibshop Program on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. to give the brothers and sisters of children with special health and developmental needs an opportunity to obtain peer support and education within a recreational context. This workshop focuses on the siblings, allowing them to become the center of attention in an environment where lots of fun, educational and recreational activities are provided.

"So many times, parents dealing with children with developmental delays, chronic illnesses or disabilities need to put much of their energy and time into that particular child. Sibshops will provide the child that does not have special health or developmental needs opportunities to learn how others handle situations commonly experienced by siblings of children with special needs," said Julie Moretz, director of Family Services Development at the Children's Medical Center.

About 20 children between the ages of seven and 14, who have siblings with special health or developmental needs, will be participating. "Brothers and sisters of children with special health and developmental needs have much to offer one another," Ms. Moretz said.
