Orthopedic Services, Treatment of Stroke and Pulmonary Care Rated Among Best in Region Lakewood, CO - The fourth annual release of HealthGrades Hospital Report Card reports that MCG Hospitals and Clinics have received top ratings for excellence in orthopedic services, treatment of stroke and pulmonary care. Each year, HealthGrades analyzes the quality of care at more than 5,000 hospitals across the country and publishes ratings based on the performance of that hospital. Hospitals are awarded a 5 star (best), 3 star (average), or 1 star (poor) rating. Less than 15% of the hospitals in the country in each category receive a five-star designation for outstanding performance in patient care. MCG's scores place it among the top five hospitals in the state for orthopedic services, and the top two in the region for the treatment of stroke and pulmonary care. "We study hospitals nationwide and provide our Hospital Report Cards with the mission of helping consumers make better informed health care choices and improving the quality of health care overall. The outstanding scores earned by MCG Hospitals and Clinics reflect a level of excellence that members of the community need to know about," explained Sarah Loughran, Senior Vice President of HealthGrades. HealthGrades' latest analysis, released today, is based on data collected from 1998 through 2000 by the federal government's Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. "The analysis produces a report card rating for performance of hospitals based on the patient population of each individual facility," said Loughran. "By comparing actual outcomes such as mortality or complications against what is expected, we can provide an accurate apples-to-apples comparison of providers." "We are very pleased to receive this commendation. We work hard to provide our community with the highest level of care and this helps validate the outstanding efforts of our physicians and staff," said Don Snell, President and Chief Executive Officer of MCG Health, Inc.
