Keeping Children Safe

Unintentional injuries are the number-one killer of children ages 14 and under. Taking a few simple steps to protect children could prevent 90 percent of them.

Safe Kids East Central is led by the MCGHealth Children's Medical Center and is dedicated to preventing deaths and injuries through education and safety training.

Training includes:

  • Car seat safety
  • Bike helmets
  • Water safety
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Poison prevention
  • Gun safety
  • Fire prevention
  • Fall prevention
  • Emergency first aid
  • Baby safety

In addition, Safe Kids hosts "Growing Up for Girls," a quarterly program for preteen girls (ages 8 to 12) and their female role models. The two-hour free program focuses on the changes that a young girl experiences as she goes through puberty.

Keeping children safe and preventing injury is an important part of our pediatric care. Safe Kids is the vehicle through which we educate parents and children, thereby reducing the threat of accidental death and injury.
